Stifle ISU fans, your team cost itself a win more than the refs
Idaho State fans may feel a little bit of justification after the three officials who collectively made the no-call on Jordan Hasquet's Webber-esque timeout were suspended for one game. Probably not. Either way, quit complaining. The Bengals blew it.
Anyway, here's a taste of what Bengals fans are saying, straight out of an email a fan sent to me. This fan was too "classy" to leave his name or email address.
If we both were to say that the ref looked the other way and let the players decide the game in overtime then all he did was give the Griz a chance to play it out. A chance to win. Well, interesting thing, both teams start with the same number of points in overtime and therefore have the same chance of winning. In that overtime, the Bengals got dominated. Similar to the last 7:30, when the Bengals scored 5 points. If they score 6, the game is over. It didn't happen. Leading up to that call, the Griz put themselves in position to win and the Bengals put themselves in position to lose.

Are you kinding me? You think that win was legit? Oh yeah im talking to a grizzly fan! You probably havent seen the footage from the game and ALL the [MESSED] up calls that benefited the Griz! I believe in fair wins. But when a game is given to a team and they dont even have class about it. (as in Mr. Hasquet aka ****) I think it is VERY VERY funny that you guys dont even recognise the Technical foul that should have ended the Game! Griz= Classless HumanLet's start with a couple key sentences. "I believe in fair wins. But when a game is given to a team and they dont even have class about it." Alright, it's one sentence and then another uncompleted thought. Even so, were we "given the game?" Yes, you can argue that. But only because the Bengals gave the Griz the game. Let's look at this...
- In the last 7:30, the Bengals scored 5 points.
- Demetrius Monroe misses the front-end of a 1-and-1 that would've for all intensive purposes ended the game. The lead would've been 4 with 31 seconds left.
- Cameron Rundles misses a jumper off of penetration and the Bengals fail to get a rebound even though the lane was filled with ISU players. Strait kicks to Hasquet, he drills it to tie the game.
- After that, Idaho State has 17 seconds to set something up. TONS of time. Stucki lofts up an ugly 3-pointer that I'm not even sure caught iron. 17 seconds, and that's the best shot the Bengals could get.

Being the Person who wrote that I appologize to Everyone I upset! What is done is done! Lets leave it at that. Im sorry and I realize it was an Immature act and the Bengal Organization or its fans Shouldnt get a bad name For ones Actions. Again Im sorry.
I don't understand the whole "let the players decide" argument. The players did -- a player called a timeout with none remaining. It's not debatable -- it's a technical. You argue that ISU is at fault for letting this game get away. Perhaps. On the other hand, maybe, just maybe, ISU did everything in it's power to make sure it didn't relinquish the lead.
Seriously, Colin, if you are "fine" with this ending, then so be it. To me, it's damn right scary that a ref decided not only this game, but the Big Sky playoff seedings with this one "non-call."
It has NEVER been ... the exact moment a player or coach calls a time out ... it has ALWAYS been ... when a ref sees and reacts to a player or coach calling for a time out.
If game time has expired before the time out is seen, recognized and then acted on by the ref, THERE IS NO TIME OUT.
Gar, what are you arguing? The Big Sky office itself has said that the referee recognized the timeout BEFORE the horn sounded. Read the release. Go to ISU's website and read their version. They reference the exact NCAA rule which was violated.
The referee then said this call was not reviewable. That was also proven false. There was a television crew there, and the game could/SHOULD have been reviewed.
If this wasn't an issue, the referees would NOT have been suspended. They were in the wrong. Why is this being argued?
This is a great example of how horrible big sky officiating can be—especially officiating done by Eric Curry—but the Bengals did more to lose the game than the officiating crew did.
By the same token, then, the referees did more to win this game than Montana did.
I disagree. The referees did not rally from 5 down with less than 2:00 left and they didn't outscore ISU 14-9 in overtime.
If I hear the referee himself say he recognized the players action before the clock expired, I will believe him.
No one in The Big Sky office or any other office knows when the referee recognized any players actions. You MUST take a ref's word when he
says he recognized an action taken by a coach or player.
The only person that can possibly know when he recognized an action, is that ref.
A punitive action against a ref by any body, who has the audacity to think they, not the ref himself, are the ones that really know what that ref was thinking, should be arrested for fraud.
I agree It is imposible to know what the Ref was thinking at that time. That is not the argument. The argument is he BLEW the whistle. Then he acted like it wasnt blown. I dont think they should take away your win. I just think the Refs should be weeded through. I bet we ALL can attest to that. Another thing, This is a game! A GAME!
Does anyone know EXACTLY what the clock said at the EXACT time the whistle became audible.
If there was no time on the clock, there is no call.
If there was time on the clock when the whistle became audible, AND, only if, the ref admits he recognized a player was calling for a time out, there should be a call.
It was on Tv you know
No one knows, unless the ref himself states, the reason he blew the whistle was to call a time out that was being called for by the player.
If the ref does not specifically say that was the reason for the whistle, there is no call.
Was there ANY time left when the whistle was HEARD, or was the whistle only heard after the clock had expired?
It doesn't matter if the call was recognized, if time was out when the whistle was finally blown and heard.
The whistle time is the only thing that matters, and that only matters if the ref says a time out was the reason for the whistle.
The whistle, and especially the reason for the whistle, stated ONLY by the ref in question, is all that matters.
I love blogs it gives us a healthy way to vent our feelings. Nothing can change that game. So it doesnt matter what the ref was thinking does It?
Per NCAA rule, the NCAA Men's Basketball Rules Committee does not recognize or allow protests.
"We give officials great flexibility to interpret plays within the rules,'' Fullerton said. "We never allow officials to set aside a rule. We're not sure whether the game would have ended on the free-throw line, but Idaho State should have been given that opportunity.''
but Idaho State should have been given that opportunity.''
............
If Fullerton will swear without any doubt, that Fullerton and only Fullerton knows better than the actual ref what the ref saw and was thinking, I will consider Fullerton's words.
If Fullerton cannot swear that he has a better insight than the ref, to what the ref was thinking, I will consider Fullerton full of crap.
Come on Man! Its over the punishment has been dealt.
Fullerton should not have made that ridiculous statement.
No suspension should have been handed out just because Fullerton thinks he knows and understands what someone else saw, better than the ref in question, who knows exactly what he saw and when he saw it.
Fullerton should be suspended for his outrageous statement and punitive actions.
Lol. This is a Joke right? Im sure Fullerton Did some investigation into the problem. They are not going to suspend innocent refs.
Instant replays show that the referee "finished" blowing his whistle (and signalling the T.O, by the way), with .4 seconds left. Obviously with the horn sounding just a half-second later, it would all seem instantaneous. This is where the whole "review" controversy comes into play. The referee didn't want to review (which he could/should have done), and he said he didn't recognize the timeout till after the horn blew. Again, it was caught on the replay that he DID recognize the timeout BEFORE the horn blew. This is fact, it's not debatable (and as somebody else said, Fullerton and his cronies reviewed this as well -- hence the suspensions).
This is the same crew who hosed us against n.ariz. they are horrible. If the call was made against montana and we had lost in overtime we would be screaming foul just as idaho fans are. What we montana fans should be asking is why did our player call timeout when we had none left?
For all you people saying cam is back i hope your right but i doubt it. when he has the ball our offense goes static, didnt see any diffrence in this game. when he drives and dishes he wins on his strength and suceeds when he doesnt turn it over. but to be a good guard you need to make good decisions with the ball and be able to handle prassure.I have not seen him do this well even when he was a freshman.I am sure he is a fine young man and is trying hard to suceed but i havent seen where he has the head for the game or the speed to defend the point. Just my thoughts and i do hope he comes around and helps us. This team needs all the help it can get at the guard position.
They are not going to suspend innocent refs.
........
OF COURSE THEY ARE !!!
Since the NCAA Men's Basketball Rules Committee does not recognize or allow protests, what other trivial, petty and insignificant ruling could be made to put an end to all the childish ISU whining?
honestly though ISU would you want 2 win the game like that anyways...i mean winning on a technical wouldn't be the way 2 do it...u guys just choked down the stretch thats what it all comes down to...but i guess you have nothing to be proud of over there in Poky being from Boise myself ISU is kind of the forgotten school in Idaho even more of a joke than U of I in Moscow haha so i guess u guys just want to win games without regard to how cheap u get them...if you want 2 say u guys are better than us then beat us on the court and not let us come back and take you out
Why the personal shots at ISU and Pocatello? It was a horrible call, and let's hope something happens which finally addresses the horrible refereeing in the conference.
It isn't about Montana vs. ISU. Why are you taking it so personally, Devin? It's about the referees. The victory stands, you don't have to worry about it being taken away.
As far as your comments about ISU, you might want to do some research. I'm not going to take pot shots at Boise, BSU, or Idaho.
naw i'm just tired of ISU fans bitching about it...get over it your team sucks, your city sucks, eastern idaho sucks, and your basketball team wasn't as good as ours on sunday...i love taking personal shots at Pocatello because that city is a joke...nothing pleased me more my senior year of high school football then us going over 2 a sold out holt arena and waxing Pocatello high in front of your arrogant hometown fans who threw stuff at us both years we beat them for the state championship that is where my hate for Pocatello is stemmed from because most of the athletes from Poky high go 2 ISU...
Congratulations, Devin. You represent Boise and Montana very well.
Well Said!
